What happens when you combine science and art?

Over 200 people participated in a four day series of workshops held at the Great Southern Museum in Albany during the 2022 Southern Art & Craft Trail.

Artist Karlee Bertola, on behalf of ArtSouthWA, engaged over 200 people aged 2 to 87 years of age who created over 100 pieces of art from inspirations seen under the museums microscopes.

Fantastic support from the museum allowed participants to explore microscopic life using the museums specimen collections.

Visitors from across Western Australia, interstate and oversea participated in the four day series which created a 2m x 1.8m display in the museum CO-OP building.

The range of artworks included watercolours, drawing, collage with mixed mediums.

What was especially heartening was the participation from people with disabilities. This was going to lead to ongoing activities and new partnerships between the Museum and disability sector which is a fantastic outcome.
