FIGS (Felters in the Great Southern) operates as an educational and supportive environment for the community to learn about the ‘ancient’ craft of felting,
Innovative techniques are utilized to shape fibre into a diverse variety of felted products, for example, wearable garments, sculptural artwork, and interior design products.
Wool is the base fibre to manufacture these goods, with design features emphasized with the incorporation of other fibres and materials in the manufacturing process.
Our group meets on the third Sunday each month (except December) from 10 am to 4pm.
Meetings generally incorporate some facet of learning about a particular felting technique.
Members are invited to share felting experiences and ‘bragging ‘ of their own products to the group.
Sometimes pertinent business is discussed at the meeting.
There are annual opportunities for members to apply to participate in workshops with engaging tutors. FIGS has hosted both international and local felt tutors, and the knowledge gained from these exceptional people has vastly increased the ‘felt knowledge brain’ of the group.
FIGS annually participates in the Southern Art and Craft Trail, held in September/October, where many felted articles are installed.
Our meetings take place at the Bornholm/Kronkup hall on the Lower Denmark Road, about 30 minutes easy drive from Albany.
The annual subscription to join as a member is exceptionally reasonable, and if one simply wants to pay a visit, a small fee is charged for that day.
You are welcome to join us for felt knowledge, tea/coffee and morning tea provided on the day.
