I design and create unique millefiori polymer clay wearable art/jewellery, bowls, art, functional and non functional oddities.
Millefiori is an ancient technique used by glass artisans throughout the ages of Phoenicia, Egypt and modern day Italy and now adapted to use with polymer clay and also the makers of ‘rock’ candy.
It requires layering and shaping sheets of polymer clay into hand built elements which are assembled like a thick jigsaw. The jigsaw is then squeezed to reduce its size then stretched to form long logs or ‘canes’ so that when the cane is cut an image can be seen running internally through its length. Slices of the image are baked to harden then sanded and polished. They can be used as a veneer or by themselves to create original wearable art or unique pieces to adorn the home.
Polymer clay is synthetic clay is similar to acrylic paint but with more plasticizer in it to produce a dough-like clay. And like acrylic paint it is colourfast and waterproof.
