Living amongst this amazing natural resource, influences Joanne’s art. Woogenellup is between the Stirling Range National Park and the Porongurup Range National Park, connecting bush land and water interspersed through farmland as part of the Gondwana link in the Great Southern Region of WA. Nature fascinates Joanne, & she strives to interpret what she perceives. Capturing a moment that impresses upon her and translating that into painting exploring texture, light, atmosphere and subtle colour changes. Working in many mediums, predominantly works are in soft pastels. The pure colours and the immediacy of application, along with being able to manipulate pastel with finger tips allows her to feel her way around the subjects.
Her primitive studio space is an old shipping container with 2 windows added for air flow and watching the seasonal local colours of sky, grasses and trees. The environmental harshness is strongly felt as portrayed in landscape paintings.
People are really important to her & she loves to capture their essence in portraits. Contact her directly regarding commissions, or private sales. She has won awards for both portraits and landscapes.
She works in a local art centre. In her travels she captures images of the light effect on the landscape. This can translate into paintings in the studio. Painting en plein air is rare as glare promotes migraine for her. From her resource material & glimpsing the local colours from the studio, finding real colour.
She has interests in local art groups and land care.
She participate in group exhibitions within the state and locally. Most weeks her artworks can be found exhibited in Mitchell House Art Centre or West Cape Howe Wines in Mt Barker. She participates in Art Trail exhibition in groups, though she has had solo exhibitions.
