Contemporary landscapes, seascapes, florals and loose botanicals.
My paintings are largely influenced by my love of nature – flowers in all their glory, the beautiful colours and shapes found in the bush, and the ancient forests and wild coastline where I live.
I work with a variety of mediums to express what I see and feel about a place or subject. The light, the atmosphere and the seasons evoke different emotional responses and the resulting artworks can be quite diverse. Lately I have been attracted to working in oils with a limited palette of quite muted colours, but I also love strong and vibrant colours and then I’ll get out my acrylic inks and let them sing and flow onto the paper!
I enjoy plein-air painting and sketching outdoors in the many special spots that I come across on my walks. Often these sketches are the inspiration for larger paintings.
I am also currently experimenting with making my own inks and paints using plants and earth pigments.
I have had my seascapes featured by UK artist Tara Leaver as part of her seven day series, 2019, and my artwork is also featured by Louise Gale in her book ‘Botanical Mandalas’.
I participate regularly in local group exhibitions and a selection of my paintings can be found at the Riverfront Gallery in Denmark.
This year I will be exhibiting at the 2021 Southern Art and Craft Trail together with talented mozaic artist Sudasi Jolley at her Yakamia studio, and also at the Town Hall as part of the Albany Art Group..
