I love to paint nature in all her moods. The local coastline with its wild beaches and ever-changing skies and the colours and textures found in the landscape all provide inspiration for my paintings.
Connection with the landscape is important to me. I like painting outdoors and can spend many happy hours sketching on the rocks by the sea or under a shady tree immersed in the natural world. My sketches will often provide the springboard for larger paintings, where I hope to convey the feeling of the place and draw the viewer in to create a tangible visceral connection.
When I am outside and in the elements I don’t feel separate from my environment. I become part of that place, wherever it is. I let it all speak to my heart and to my emotions. This is what comes out in my painting.
I regularly take part in local group exhibitions. At this year’s annual Art Trail I will be exhibiting with the Kalgan Artists at the Kalgan Hall, and also as part of the Albany Art Group at the Vancouver Arts Centre, Albany.
