Marion Nelson is a printmaker, painter, and origami artist. Working from her design studio in Denmark on the south coast of Western Australia, the rhythm of her creative practice is influenced by the beautiful surrounding landscape.
Marion was born in Singapore and has lived in Denmark for over 25 years. She works across a variety of media, preferring linocut and monoprint, painting in watercolour, and creating origami artworks. All the techniques complement each other in her work.
One of the beautiful elements of the printmaking process is the ability to create original artwork, each piece hand-printed by the artist. Her artworks are often embellished with 21 carat gold leaf, making each one unique.
Letting layers upon layers of watercolour float and saturate on paper has a sensual effect. The technique lends itself to creating spontaneous marks and painting tranquil country scenes.
In recent years Marion has segued into 3D art in the form of origami. The act of folding exquisite paper into cranes and incorporating into an intricate design is a meditative process. Small pieces of Japanese paper are often used and folded using a pair of tweezers due to their size. Some artworks require hundreds of paper cranes.
Marion’s goal is to bring visual enjoyment and beauty to others. She hopes that her art will bring serenity and positive vibration into your space.
Many of her artworks have won awards and are in public and private collections.
In 2019, Marion was a Finalist in the Claremont Art Prize, and Category Winner in Kondinin, Newdegate, Pemberton, and Nornalup. She was the feature artist in Gossamer Exhibition at Blush Gallery, Albany, and was featured in Aurora magazine and Albany Advertiser.
