I am a First Nations artist in Albany, Western Australia. My style has been described as contemporary First Nations art and is quite colourful, however it has not lost its cultural interpretation. For me the use of bright colours is a way of interpreting my culture & traditional values, who I am and where I am from. We have always been taught and shown our culture through carvings on rocks, Creation stories of our landscape and using ceremonial body paint to acknowledge our dreaming and storylines.
I use modern mediums such as acrylics on canvas to convey my interpretation of flora and fauna that is provident within our area, while also exploring my landscape mapping through my larger pieces. My most recent commissions have focused on a theme of cultural mapping via First Nations art to increase a sense of belonging and connection to landscapes for others.
I like using a bold (colourful) palate of acrylic paint using additives to enhance the painting.
I mix my own themes and styles to gain further insight into art to convey our cultural messages and their meanings.
